MERIDEN, CT – On Monday, May 18th Democratic State Senate candidate Jim Jinks received support from twenty-eight percent of the delegates at the Democratic State Senate Convention for the 13th District seat. With unanimous support from Cheshire delegates and additional support from Middlefield and Middletown, Jinks received nearly twice the necessary minimum threshold to be on the August 11th primary election ballot.

‘I was confident we’d get more than enough support to be on the ballot, but it’s still a great feeling to do so well and qualify outright’ said Jim Jinks, candidate for the 13th State Senate District. ‘This campaign has always been about something far greater than simply being the nominee. UConn Husky fans know winning the regular season title doesn’t mean much, if you’re not cutting down the nets at the end of the season. We’ve been building this campaign for the long haul and we’re in it to win it,’ Jim said. With the convention in the rearview, the campaign now moves to talking to as many Democratic voters as possible over the next three months. ‘I’ve worked hard every election because I’ve had to in Cheshire. As an outspoken critic of Trump and Trump Republicans, in a traditionally ‘red’ town, I’ve never been able to take anything for granted. But I also love to get out and talk to voters, so knocking doors and meeting people is something I enjoy and it’s always such an important learning experience. And in a State Senate district with 20,000 Democrats I have a lot of people to meet, Jinks said.

The 13th District is an open-seat election, following Senator Jan Hochadel’s retirement, where Democratic voters will decide between Jim Jinks and his primary opponent, Jack Fazzino, with the Republican party having yet to announce a candidate for the general election.

Born and raised in Connecticut, Jim has lived in District 13 for thirteen years with his wife, Marie, and their dog, C.J., while raising their four children. He works in the private sector, but is a dedicated public servant, currently serving as vice-Chair of the Cheshire Town Council, and is a community volunteer and organizer.
